The Sudanese Community Association of Ontario (SCAON) was incorporated in 1989 as a not-for-profit organization based in Toronto, Ontario. The primary objective of SCAON is to develop community partnerships and establish programs that will enhance the experiences of Sudanese Canadians in Toronto and surrounding areas. All residents of the province of Ontario who identify as Sudanese qualify for membership. Nonetheless, SCAON is committed to keeping its doors open to welcome and serve members of the Greater Toronto community at large.
SCAON is run by a volunteer Board of Directors made of (12) members who are elected by the organization’s membership during an Annual General Meeting (AGM).
We operate in accordance with principles of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Anti-Oppression Perspective (AOP).
Programs and services offered by the Sudanese Community Association of Ontario include but are not limited to;
A broad range of newcomer and settlement services
Family and individual counseling
Conduct research and consultations to better understand and serve the needs of the Sudanese community in Toronto and surrounding areas.
Collaborate and partner with government and other community organizations to strengthen our presence and participation as valued members of the broader community
Organize regular Social, cultural and educational events and programs to celebrate and share our Sudanese culture and heritage with our broader community
